What to Expect for your Certification

1. Self-Study: Prepare to complete 3 to 8 hours (depending on your pace) of online self-study material.

2. Meetings (Online or In-Person): After the self-study activities are submitted, there will be three 2 to 2.5-hour meetings to learn how to use the program. (Rolla Club and Skate IA certified instructors will only have two meetings, which can be completed at once or separately). ONLINE: You must have a flat place to skate, such as a garage, basement or living room, and access to a device that can access video calls with a stable internet connection. IN-PERSON: Available in Victoria, BC, or other in-person Canadian certification arrangements are possible with a minimum number of participants. Email info@rollright.org for more details. Candidates are required to have: Full gear (helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, and knee pads are optional), toe stops (for quad and inline figure skates) or heel brakes (for inline skates), and a yoga mat to stand on with their skates.

Exclusive Program Materials & Tools for Certified Instructors:

Program Overview

Class Progress Tracker

  • Stay organized for private or group lessons, by tracking your skater’s progress!
  • This can act as your lesson plan
  • It includes progressions for each skill, as well as activities & suitable skills from various disciplines to peek your skaters' interests

Progress Reports

  • Give to your skaters after a one-off lesson, set term, or when they have passed a level – the instructor can choose their own assessment timelines.
  • After stage 3 or later, skaters may choose to move directly into more discipline-specific programs such as slalom, roller dance, or race skating if those are available. Otherwise finishing to stage 6 will provide a strong foundation to enjoy skating for life, and learn any other discipline.
